User information is managed by the SAP User Management Engine (UME). During installation you configure the portal to use either ABAP-based user management or the database of the J2EE Engine to store and retrieve user data. The administrator user that you use to log on to the portal for the first time after installation depends on how the UME has been configured. For information, see Standard Users and Groups.
Procedure: Initial Logon
...
1. Open your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser. (Administrator access is enabled via Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers only.)
2. Type one of the following addresses in the Internet browser URL field:
¡ http://fully qualified Portal server and domain name:http port of SAP J2EE/irj/
For example, if the http port of the SAP J2EE server is located on port 1000 of a computer that is identified as flamingo on the network, type the following address:
http://flamingo.usersdomain.com:1000/irj/
○ If you are working with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), the portal URL begins with https and the port value must indicate the IIS secured port as follows:
https://fully qualified Portal server and domain name:https port of SAP J2EE/irj/
3. Press Enter. One of the following scenarios occurs:
¡ If your portal is not configured to support anonymous users (default setting), the logon Welcome screen opens, displaying the Logon dialog.
¡ If your portal is configured to support anonymous users, a portal opens, displaying content approved for anonymous users.
For information about setting up your portal to support anonymous users, see Using Anonymous Logon to Access the Portal.
To access your content as an authenticated user, click the Log On link in the masthead to display the Welcome screen.
4. In the Logon dialog box of the Welcome screen, enter your correct logon information.
5. Choose Log on, and wait for the portal to load.
If you have problems logging on to the portal, in the Welcome screen, click Get Support. In the displayed dialog, you can get help with Password Reset and other logon problems.
Post Logon
After logging on, you can:
● Define a user management configuration (optional)
¡ During installation you can set up UME to use ABAP-based user management or a database as a user data source. If you wish to use an LDAP directory or a custom configuration for your user management data, you must change your user management configuration after installation. For more information, see UME Configuration.
○ Once you have configured UME to use the data source that you require, all users defined in the data source can log on to the portal. When SAP NetWeaver Portal opens, users see the portal configured according to the content assignments defined for the roles to which they belong.
● Create your user profile
○ In the Welcome screen, click Register Now, and in the displayed screen, fill out the New User Registration form.
○ You can later update the profile through Personalize ® User Profile. For more information, see Personalizing Your Portal.
○ This form is also used by users who do not yet have a portal user ID and password, but want to log on to the portal.
The New User Registration form contains a checkbox for enabling the portal accessibility features. For information about accessibility in the portal see Accessibility.
● Perform some initial configuration tasks. For more information, see Initial Configuration Tasks.
● Begin to perform your super administrator tasks. For more information, see Super Administration.
..
Logging Off
If you want to end your portal session, we recommend that you log off, and not simply close your browser. Closing the browser leaves the portal still working, until it times out.
When working in a browser that supports multiple tabs, such as Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox, if you close a tab in which a portal is running, the portal session is saved. If you then open the portal in a new tab, you are already logged on and need to first log off if you wish to log on with different credentials.
To log off SAP NetWeaver Portal, click Log Off in the masthead. The portal session is terminated and you are redirected to the logon dialog box of the Welcome screen.
If your company is using a third party authentication server, you see one of the following when you log off:
● The logon dialog box of the Welcome screen
The logout action triggers a hidden URL to redirect the information to the authentication server, which performs the logoff.
● An external page that was associated to the portal
The portal server sends the logout information to the authentication server, which performs the logoff and displays a preconfigured external page.
