Create/Change Logical Components in Solution Manager

Use

You use logical components:

In the project for Business Blueprint, Configuration, Testing, Customizing Distribution

During operation of your solution in Monitoring for systems and business processes

In Change Request Management

Prerequisites

You have assigned the systems to products which you want to use in logical components.

You have flagged one main instance per system as relevant. You can only then use this system in a logical component.

Procedure

Create Logical Components

SAP delivers some predefined logical components. To create a new logical component:

...

1. Choose System Groups and Logical Components ® Logical Components ® , in the overview tree.

2. Choose Create New Logical Component from the context menu.

3. Enter the required data.

4. Choose a product.

Note

You can create a new product in the Create Logical Components screen.

5. Choose a product version.

6. Choose a main instance.

Note

Read the online help to display all product versions/main instances.

Choose a main instance.

1. Save the changes.

Change logical component

...

1. Specify the use of the logical component:

To use a logical component in system groups, i.e. in solution landscapes for operations, or in projects, set the Active flag in the right hand window.

Set the Inactive flag to hide the logical component system-wide from the new uses possible entries help, but retain existing uses of the logical component.

2. You can change the product version in the Current System Assignments tab.

3. Assign logical systems to the logical components for the various system roles, e.g. as development system, in the Current System Assignments tab.

Note

In the Current System Assignments tab, you can:

Consistency Check: System assignment consistency check

If Change Request Management is configured: Transport Routes: Display the transport routes in which the systems are

Where-Used List: Display the system groups in which the logical component is already used, e.g. display the projects which use it.

You can go to the use from the list of uses, to delete it if required.

System Roles: Change system roles or their sequence, type system roles for the Change Request Management, e.g. as Subsequent System in a transport route.

4. Save the changes.

Result

Logical components in projects:

Assign the logical components to a project, in the Project Administration ® System Landscape tab ® Systems subtab, to be able to navigate within a project in the component systems.

Logical Component in Solution Manager

Definition

A logical component is an administrative entity which assigns logical systems, in the entire system landscape and across projects, to the following:

a main instance of a product with a product version, e.g. the main instance CRM Server of the product SAP CRM with the product version 4.0.

the system roles or phases in a project, e.g. the system role development system for the configuration.

Use

You use logical components to uniquely identify the component systems:

In the project for Business Blueprint, Configuration, Testing, Customizing Distribution

You use logical components in the Business Blueprint, even if you have not yet setup systems. These logical components are place holders for the systems later.

During operation of your solution in Monitoring for systems and business processes

In Change Request Management.

You can change the logical systems in a logical component centrally, e.g. if your test systems change, or when upgrading a logical system. You can reuse logical components, e.g. in several projects, or in operational processing, after an implementation project.

Structure

The logical systems in a logical component are usually connected by transport paths.
